So this begins my 25th year of teaching in CSISD. This is also the one and only year that both of our children will be on the same campus. Allyse will be part of the "big kid on campus" group as she begins 4th grade and Aiden will begin his public school career as a brand new
kindergartner!
As I completed the endless forms and parent information sheets their teachers sent home, one question caused me to reflect more deeply not only about my own children, but also about the "why" for my own passions about teaching and learning. It is what I desire for my own children that drives the whole "why" I come to work each day conversation.
I can not really answer the "What do you want most for your child" question in a word or two because I want many things for our children. I want them to be compassionate, faithful, and loving. I also want them to be bold, strong and smart! Of course I want them to do well in school, be successful, and experience life in a way that allows them to be real thinkers and doers. Really I want this for all children. This is the answer to "why" I come to work each day.
As the English Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator my focus is primarily in the language arts: reading, writing, listening and speaking. What do I want for our children in CSISD related to the language arts? I want our students to become real readers and writers, to live reading and writing lives!
So this begins a first for me too! I have never blogged before, but my hope is this blog will allow me to share thoughts, little gems, spotlights, and wonderful resources for teachers of all of our children about living as real readers and writers.
